Prezi - New Way of Presenting
For my last additional task I tried out prezi.com, a zooming presentation editor. My first prezi documents my first steps with this tool and my opinion about is. Take a closer look.
This short prezi should just give you an impression, what this tool in general is about. It was very easy to get familiar with this tool, but there are many more possibilities you can make use of. In the main menue on prezi.com you can find a section called 'learn'. In this section you can find very helpful tips how you can work with prezi on your own. One important aspect for us as teachers is that this tool gives you and especially your pupils the chance to work on one presentation at the same time. So it can be used with cooperative tasks in the classroom as well. Prezi gives you also an introduction how you can 'prezify', as they call it, your PowerPoint or other keynote slides.
In contrast to PowerPoint prezi is a web-based presentation editor. This does not mean that you need internet access while presenting, because you can download your prezi. Another difference is the map layout of this tool. Instead of the traditional slide layout we know from PowerPoint, the presenter can organise the content of his presentation anywhere he likes on the map. With the help of paths, you create yourself, you can lead your audience through your presentation. Additionally you have the opportunity to zoom in and out of you presentation and comment on important points with detail information. In other words the navigation is non-linear.
I think that if one likes this tool or not depends partly on his or her own presenting style. I could imagine that it could be an effort of will to use this tool for the first time, because of the innovation this tool provides with the feature of zooming. However, the paths you have set beforehand, will be a reliable guide to travel through your presentation.
